Familyhood
The vision of Familyhood is attained when Familyhood’s, intergenerational, systemic approach is functioning at all the school levels and operating for 20 years in collaboration.
20 years means both Familyhood motto’s are attained and have been systemically functioning for 10 years of active production of Alumni/Alumnae. produces its Alumni
The two mottoes of Familyhood are:
1) Every school shall have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association and Friends of School (basically everyone else who wants to get involved).
2) Every school shall have a garden, a farmers’ market and a grocery store.
In essence, Familyhood is an inter-generational approach of utilizing the schools own organizations to promote governance and leadership from within the community, while improving our food system.
The math formula of a school’s Familyhood is: SGA + PTA + AA + FOS = FAM
To read this formula out loud, SGA stands for the Student Government Association. PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association and AA stands for Alumni Association and FOS stands for Friends of the School and FAM is short for Familyhood.
As mentioned above, the means of production of Familyhood is the production of Alumni. Familyhood defines Alumni as graduates of school’s who return to mentor the Student Government Association and who are active members in their Alumni Association.
Familyhood’s main goal is to create a pipeline between schools Student Government Association and their Alumni Association and the community they live.
The “do now” strategy to get started towards Familyhood is 1st Saturdays – representing the 1st Saturday of every month as the official monthly volunteer day to review the two motto’s mentioned above.
Remember? O.k. Again. The two mottoes are: 1) Every school shall have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association. 2) Every school shall have a garden, a farmers’ market and a grocery store.
Schools meet once a month, every 1st Saturday of the month to increase the membership of their organization, share updates, while working to improve their food system, while building their local community, while enabling students hands -on work experience, while teaching every student the ability of growing their own food, while networking with local business leaders, while have some fun!
